Health care is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States—8 out of the 20 fastest growing occupations are in health care. In fact, the Department of Labor predicts that more new jobs created through 2014 will be in health care than in any other industry. If you’ve ever been interested in health care administration jobs, now is an excellent time to consider getting a degree in health care management.

The first step to a job in health care management is a degree. For some positions, you can get started in this career with a bachelor’s degree in health care. However, for the best opportunities in health care management you will need to work towards a master’s degree. Health care management jobs can have long hours, but the rewards are many. The U.S. Dept. of Labor reported median annual earnings of $67,430 for medical and health services managers in 2004. However, the highest 10 percent earned upwards of $117,990.

What Do You Need to Do to Get Into This Field?

Think of getting into health care management as an incremental process. This will help you achieve your goals. Probably the easiest way to embark on this process is through online education, or distance learning. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, an online master degree in health care administration can help you qualify for the best positions.

Get a Job

If you’re seriously interested in health care administration jobs, look for a job that will help you gain real-world experience. Employers prefer applicants with a health care degree and time on the job. This will help introduce you to the changing technologies, legalities, and evolving delivery systems of health care.

With a health care degree and some job experience, you’ll be ideally positioned for your dream job.
