The number of dental assistant jobs is expected to increase over the next few years. If you want to take advantage of this growth you can now train for dental office work from home, by enrolling on a training program with an online college.

Does the sound of the dentist’s drill make you shiver? If it doesn’t, and you want an office job with a difference, why not consider becoming a dental office assistant?

Why Dental Office Work?

Why choose dental office work when you could choose from a hundred other office jobs? For people who want administrative work in a healthcare setting, dental office jobs have a lot to offer.

  • Job prospects are currently excellent and are expected to get even better, with employment forecast to increase at a faster than average rate through 2014
  • Benefits vary from practice to practice, but you can expect an average hourly rate of $13.62, and maybe as much as $19.97; the majority of full-time dental assistants receive paid vacation time; many full-time and part-time assistants also get dental coverage.
  • The work is varied, responsible and in a clean, safe environment
  • With on-the-job training you can progress from administrative duties to working alongside the dentist while he or she treats patients

Preparing For Dental Work with An Online College

If you are thinking of applying for one of the dental office jobs you have seen advertised, you could improve your chances of getting it by earning a certificate in dental office work from an online college.

A typical program in dental office work offered by an online college will cover all the administrative aspects of the work (from office management to billing procedures) and will also give you an introduction to dental terminology and patient relations.

With regular study you can complete the whole course in around two months, and be on your way to getting a job in a dental practice. From there, you should be able to progress to becoming a fully-fledged dental assistant, with the increases in pay and benefits that would bring.
