Once, Blockbuster Video was at the top of the home video entertainment business. But the recent development of Netflix has stolen some of Blockbuster’s thunder. Now, the old pro is copying the business development model of the new kid on the block.

The struggle for power and domination of the home video market is centered on two major players. Blockbuster Video has been the leader for several years. But recently, Netflix, a new video upstart that features mail order exchange, has gained a foothold in the market. It is also worthy to not that Blockbuster seems to be copying the business development strategy of Netflix by varying their rental terms in accordance with their users’ habits. The degree to which these changes affect Blockbuster’s market share remains to be seen.

Business Development Strategies

  • How to Come Out on Top? If you only rent movies in the single digits per month, you will probably be better off going with Blockbuster. Netflix is good for those who rent over ten movies per month.
  • Web Presence. Interactive Web sites are an integral part of the business development strategy of both entertainment companies.
  • Postal Blues. One of the drawbacks to Netflix’s business development strategy is the postage costs for viewers who rent a lot of movies.
