Post Office Jobs Carry the Day!By Craig Friesencraig.friesen@careertrainingdirectory.com Career Training Directory Columnist Mention US post office jobs to someone and the likely response is to think of mail carriers. While city carriers are the most visible of all postal office jobs, there are other positions available for you to consider.
Acquiring one of the many post office jobs is not as simple as it seems. There are qualifications, for example, that not every person can meet. Also, the longer you stay with US post office jobs the greater your chance for higher salaries and promotions. Another important consideration is that qualifying for postal office jobs does not guarantee that you will be employed. Qualifying for US Post Office JobsAcquiring post office jobs can be a long process. First you need to meet the basic requirements which include age, physical ability, citizenship, and a valid driver license. The next step is to complete the entrance exam. There are also individual tests you can take to qualify for specific postal office jobs and you are permitted to write as many of these as you want. Passing one entrance exam will put you on the registry - an important place to be as you can then apply for available US post office jobs often listed internally only. The entrance exam and accompanying forms will take you about two hours to complete. Some professional or administrative positions do not require written exams - these tend to be advertised publicly and are open to anyone qualified. All post office jobs require that you pass a mandatory drug screening. A Variety of Postal Office JobsPostal office jobs are mostly indoors with the exception of mail carriers. City carriers collect and deliver mail on foot or in a vehicle. Mail clerks comprise the majority of post office jobs available indoors. Clerk positions involve the handling, sorting or distribution of mail and selling postal services in store outlets. There are full time career opportunities and casual placements as well, including summer US post office jobs for college students.About the authorCraig Friesen is a freelance writer living in Saskatchewan, Canada.
