After winning this stage, Armstrong confirmed his desire to retire at the top of his game. Wearing his trademark yellow Live Strong wristband, a piece of retail merchandising marvel, Armstrong set out last of the 155 riders left after three weeks of racing across France and its mountains. But he quickly smoked the competition with determined efforts on the tricky and technical route’s sharp bends, fast downhills and tiring uphills.
