Instead of staying in the United States Army and going to fight for his country in Vietnam, Jimi Hendrix claimed he was gay to counseling professionals. He then went on to launch one of the most storied rock careers in history and touch millions of lives in the process.

Guitar great Jimi Hendrix visited counseling professionals throughout the beginning of his military service. He complained that he was in love with one of his squad mates and that he had become addicted to masturbating. And that was enough for his superior officers to recommend his full dismissal from the armed forces. However, Hendrix's legendary appetite for women negates the notion that he might have been gay.

University of Phoenix is chosen by more working adults than any other university in the U.S. Learn the skills you need to succeed at conveniently located campuses.

Jimi Hendrix and the Military:

  • His Real Goal. He just wanted to escape the Army to play music, as he had enlisted to avoid jail time after being repeatedly arrested in stolen cars in Seattle, his hometown.
  • High Points. He went on to leave other rock heroes of the day speechless with his headlining performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Woodstock in 1969.
  • Pro War. Despite his image as an anti-war sage, Hendrix was an avowed anti-communist who exhibited little unease about the escalating U.S. role in Vietnam.

Earn your counseling credentials through an accredited training program and you could be sitting across from the next great rock star listening to his tails of woe and deception. A counseling degree is a great way to help your community as well as enjoy one of the most exciting careers available. Here are just a few of the aspects of counseling you will enjoy.

Your Counseling Career:

  • Environment. Upon completing counseling training, your services will be required in health facilities and educational organizations all across the country.
  • Outlook. The job growth rate for counseling professionals will only increase in the coming years as more people require these focused services.
  • Education. Your counseling degree program will last four years including a clinical program to polish your skills.
