"In the International Business World, Dublin Has the Luck of the Irish"by Jessica Groach-Santina Jessica.Groach@careertrainingdirectory.com Career Training Columnist Since joining the European Union in 1973, Dublin has emerged as one of the fastest growing cities in the world. That's due in part to its establishment of its International Financial Services Center in 1987, as well as to its becoming home to five out of the world's top 10 software producers. With a quality of life that ranks 10th in the EU and 45th out of 215 cities around the world, and incredible opportunities in the technology and finance sectors, Dublin has become the place to be in the business world. Add to that operating costs that are among the lowest in the EU, with corporate taxes that seem to lower each year. Dublin's business schools were recently ranked among the top 50 European MBA schools, which might have something to do with its success. Ireland currently has the highest percentage of population with tertiary education, and one of the highest numbers of science and engineering graduates. Without higher education, its increasingly professional workforce would falter, and in fact, the city still struggles to maintain a competent workforce. The city now ranks among the most technologically advanced in the world. Anyone considering a future in finance or technology, it seems, will eventually conduct business with Dublin, Ireland. A Good Reason to get an International Business DegreeAs cities like Dublin continue to dominate the business world, international corporations will increasingly be turning to graduates of an international business degree program, for their keen understanding of global policies. Earning your international business degree prepares you to compete on a global scale, not just an American one, and to deal cross-culturally with world business leaders. Especially in the fields of technology and finance, an international business degree will make you all the more attractive to Dublin, and the world.Sources:Financial Times Top European MBA SchoolsInternational Business Index; Dublin - Overview; USA Today "On the Waterfront" by Peter Coyne, CEO of Dublin Docklands Development Authority "Structural Change, Labor Market Dynamics and Economic Growth: Comparative Study of Ireland, Korea, and Malaysia" by Shandre M.
