Culinary Jobs for Every Palateby Jessica GroachJessica.Groach@careertrainingdirectory.com So you like to cook, and you're considering a new or different career. Good news! There's a culinary job for every taste. Career coaches advise that when picking a new career, you should consider your values, your skills and talents, your preferences, and your willingness to experiment. If that's true, culinary school is the perfect choice.
Culinary School OptionsThe great thing about learning to work with food is that it touches almost every aspect of our lives, including our health. There are thousands of food and nutrition jobs available in which your skills can be of real physical and emotional benefit to others.Your background in food preparation might prepare you for nutrition studies in graduate school. Raw or vegan diets are being studied for their disease-fighting benefits. Eating disorders among adolescents are rampant. America's obesity rate is sky high, and the fitness industry is booming. If your values include helping others, culinary school is a great way to start. Is a Culinary Career for You?Are you a good cook? Are you energetic? Do you have good interpersonal skills? Are you a good writer or artist? If you've said yes to any of these questions, there's a culinary job to match. What about becoming a food critic, or a food stylist, preparing food for photos and film? You might enjoy restaurant management, which lets you stretch your business and communication muscles. Then of course there are personal chefs, catering businesses, gyms, hospitals, schools, clinics, or teaching in culinary schools - they all need your talents.Entrepreneurs may even open their own restaurants or catering companies. And there are few jobs outside of the culinary arts that allow such ability to experiment. Get creative, help others, do what you like and do it well - it all starts in culinary school.
